Putting yourself first sometimes is the last thing on our minds in today's society. We have deadlines to meet, we often have businesses to run, households to maintain, our children to care for and the list goes on. But where are we on that list? Why do we always put ourselves last?
I, myself, as a business owner, mom of 2 and many more titles, often wonder the same thing.
Knowing when to slow down when things get overwhelming is key. It's called, self-care. Self-care is important for your physical health as well as your mind and your overall health. The term, "Your health is your wealth", is very true! I am starting to realize this myself these days.
When you are passionate about what you do, sometimes rest is the last thing on the list. I know this too well! Especially when building a business, it comes with a lot of late nights and early mornings. But you have to be just as passionate when it comes to taking care of yourself as well. Besides, there is only ONE you! And you have to be well enough to function daily for yourself, family and friends.
Some think it's selfish and inconsiderate when it comes to actually stopping and doing something for yourself. I have felt this way as well. Especially when it comes to my children and family. But when you avoid doing the things that make you feel physically and mentally well, you deplete your confidence and self-esteem. Which is two very important characteristics one should have in life.
So how do you manage having a to do list and having some self care throughout your day? Watch this video link below and take a look at the list I wrote of some things I do on a daily basis to make sure I implement self-care. And always remember to set boundaries. Saying 'NO' is an important key to self-care!
Things that I do for self-care:
Inner Care:
1. Go out for a date night, alone! I would go to my favorite spot to eat and have a drink, take a nice walk to a park, sit and think, vibe with nature or go see a movie.
2. Read a good book for 30 minutes, a self help book to boost my mood or something inspirational.
3. Take a quick 20-30 minute nap to rejuvenate and to boost my energy.
4. Unplug from social media.
5. Listen to some soothing, vibrant music.
Outer Care:
1. Go to my favorite place to shop for clothing and buy new piece of garment or some shoes. Just because.
2. Take a nice soothing bath with my favorite oils, candles and music.
3. Meditate. Get in tune with self.
4. Exercise. Stretch and go for a speed walk.
5. Spend quality time with friends and family. Good conversation and laughs are good for the soul!
So what are some things will you do to incorporate self-care into your daily lives?
